Loneliness

Talk to Jesus When You Feel Alone

Scripture-based comfort for isolation, loneliness and feeling unseen

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Deuteronomy 31:8

Loneliness is not the same as being alone. You can be surrounded by people and still feel profoundly unseen. It is the ache of not being truly known — not being held in the heart of another. This pain is ancient; the Psalms are full of it.

Jesus understood abandonment. In Gethsemane, his closest friends fell asleep while he suffered. On the cross, he cried out 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' — quoting Psalm 22, the psalm of desolation. He has been where you are.

The promise of scripture is not that loneliness will always go away, but that you are never truly alone. 'I am with you always, to the very end of the age.' (Matthew 28:20). Talking to Jesus is itself an act of reaching toward the one who is always already reaching toward you.
